Sesame Seeds White or Black

Sesame seeds with their wonderful nutty flavor are great added to so many dishes - green or pasta salads, stir fry, for encrusting chicken or beef, in sautéed vegetable dishes.  The most popular use still seems to be in the making of bread, rolls, crackers, breadsticks.  Because of the high oil factor in sesame seeds (about fifty percent) we recommend storing them in the refrigerator.

White Sesame Seeds:  More common in the United States where they are used much like poppy seeds.

Black Sesame Seeds:  In China, meat and fish are rolled in the black seeds before cooking to give an extra crunch coating.  In Japan the black seeds are used to season rice and noodle dishes.
